FAQs

Have questions about ordering, pick-up, ingredients, or how our meals work? Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often at The Handmade Chef Meal Prep Co. in San Diego

What is Meal Prep?
Our meal prep is a fully prepared single-serving meal that is ready to heat and eat. It is designed to make clean eating more convenient without giving up quality or flavor.

Can I customize my meals?
Yes. You can choose your protein, carb, vegetable, and sauce, and you can also add extra portions or order from our a la carte options.

What makes your storefront different?
You can walk into our store Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm and have meals built to order from our cold line. We also offer smoothies, snacks, and a made-to-order lunch menu for dine-in or patio seating.

How much does a meal cost?
Meal pricing depends on the protein you choose. Standard meals begin with 4 ounces of protein, 1/2 cup carbs, 1/2 cup vegetables, and 2 ounces of sauce.

Do I need a subscription?
No. You can order what you want, when you want it, without being locked into a subscription. Orders can be placed in advance for pick-up and delivery scheduling.

When can I place an order?
You can order online anytime for pick-up or delivery Monday-Friday 10am-3pm

Do you offer rewards or discounts?
Yes. Our loyalty program is free to join, gives 25 points at sign-up, earns 1 point per $1 spent, gives $5 off for every 100 points, and awards double points for online orders.

Do you have Vegan Options?
Yes. We currently offer house-made vegan patties and an organic tofu option. Most sauces are vegan except cucumber tzatziki and honey BBQ.

Is everything gluten-free?
Yes. Our entire menu is gluten-free.

What does clean food mean?
For us, clean food means meals made without gluten, seed oils, refined sugars, preservatives, using high quality ingredients like organic and local produce, sustainable seafood, non-GMO poultry and grass-fed beef.

How long do your meals last?
Meals typically last 3-5 days depending on the protein. Because food is prepared fresh daily, customers can also order more often for the freshest rotation.

What type of packaging do you use?
We use fully compostable plant-based materials. The base of our containers is oven
safe, but the lid and sauce container will melt with heat.

How do I reheat my meals?
Remove lid and sauce.
Stove- stir fry over medium heat until heated through.
Oven – 350F for 10-15minutes
Microwave – 2minutes (not our favorite way, but we know you might be busy.)

Do you offer Macro information?
Yes, on the Macros page.
